Fairy Bad Day Amanda Ashby Books
This was an exciting and entertaining urban fantasy story. I started out not liking Emma very much. She seemed particularly self-centered and self-absorbed. I was sympathetic that she had lost her mother and was trying to adjust to a new pregnant step-mother though. And I could understand her disappointment when she wasn't chose to follow in her mother's footsteps as a dragon slayer. However, her antics to try to convince Principal Kessler to change his mind and her animosity toward Curtis who was chosen as dragon slayer seemed excessive.Of course, becoming a fairy slayer did make her the laughing stock of her classmates. Fairies aren't really very dangerous being small, fashion-conscious, and prone to hang out at the Mall. Besides that they are vulnerable to Sour Skittles but can be lured with the sweet ones. It isn't until Emma sees a large, dark fairy and no one believes her that the story really kicks off for me.
She had to do research along with her friends Loni and Tyler to find a way to defeat the darkhel and send it back to its world before it overcomes ours. She is also assisted by Curtis who is her partner in a class project and who grows on her as she gets to know him. Curtis has secrets and problems of his own and blows hot and cold toward Emma which complicates their relationship.
The story had lots of action and danger. It was and exciting story. I recommend it for people who like young adult urban fantasy with a touch of romance.
Note: The cover isn't a good representation of this story. It is much more substantial than the cutesy cover would make you think.

Fairy Bad Day Amanda Ashby Books Reviews
I LOVED this book! In fact, I’ve read twice! And I loved it just as much as the first time around! I really liked the concept—it was very different and quite interesting. Fairy Bad Day actually takes place in the same world as Zombie Queen of Newbury High , another Amanda Ashby book that I absolutely loved! I just really love this world, and I also love my Easter Eggs )
I also loved our stubborn main character Emma. You can totally understand why she is so unhappy and distraught. I mean, a fairy slayer?
It’s a joke, right? WRONG! Poor Emma... and here she thought she was going to be a dragon slayer, like her mother. Instead, who gets it? Curtis. The cute, sweet guy Emma is forced to work with on a project. I loved their dynamic! It was so funny and awkward, Emma resenting him and all. But I also loved seeing how their relationship shifted from one thing to another. That bit of romance was just so adorable!
The story itself was very fun and adventurous. You have a giant, killer fairy that only Emma can see and no one believes her about it!
Except she has awesome friends who have her back and will help her in taking down this killer fairy.
Oh, and Emma also has tiny, annoying fairies to bribe ;) These guys were hilarious! And not as tough as they’d like to think they are ;)
Fairy Bad Day was a hilarious, action-packed, fun read with a dash of romance. I also loved the mythos in this book, the way all the elementals were explained. I thought that was very interesting. Anyway, I am officially a fan of Amanda Ashby! I need to read all her books ASAP!
I'm a huge fan of Amanda Ashby's work so I was excited when this book came out. It's smart and fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It started a bit slow for me but it didn't take long for the story to grab me and once that happened, I couldn't put it down. Great pacing. Great tension. Great story.
Great fun.
I highly recommend this book.
This was the first book I read from this author, but definitely not the last - I was a really great book, funny, witty characters and engrossing story - not as long as I would like because I did not want it to end, ever...I am still hoping for a sequel, please!!! I'm not at all prepared to leave this world anytime soon!!! And let me beg to differ from some reviews I have read lots of good books after this one, but I can't still forget it - in a good way!!
Emma grew up thinking that she was going to follow in her mother's footsteps and become a dragon-slayer. She was destined for it, it was in her blood. So imagine her shock, disdain and despair over being choose as a fairy slayer. Couple all those feelings with the fact that there have never be another fairy slayer before. Why should there be? It was not like the fairies were dangerous, just annoying right?
Not only was the much coveted dragon-slayer taking from her by Curtis, now she is pair with him on a class project. Curtis is not so bad but he is hiding a secret which we all know does not go very well in books. Due to his secret he plays hot/cold with rather he likes Emma or not.
I liked the book. It was a nice read on a cold rainy day. The characters are well thought-out and not annoying. Emma, even though she does not get what she wanted, is not a woe is me kinda gal. This is refreshing in comparison to many YA novels that are currently on the market.
