Foster Claire Keegan Books

"Many's the man lost much just because he missed the opportunity to say nothing."

An innocent young child finds a new way of life when she is dropped off to stay with an unfamiliar couple. (Perhaps relatives)

Set in rural Ireland on a farm in Wexford, the author gives just enough information to keep the reader guessing as we follow the daily life of the Kinsellas and a little girl in a house with no secrets....save one.

An emotional little gem of a read by Claire Keegan.

Foster Claire Keegan Books Reviews

Our neighborhood book club found it a bit difficult to obtain copies of this book initially. It had been recommended by one of our members and it seems we all scrambled to find a copy! (U.K.) came through for me and though it took a little longer, I still read it in time for our meeting. Of course it helps that the book is 89 pages long! Notwithstanding the length, we ALL loved the book and I have already ordered other works by Claire Keegan through
This is really a short story dressed as a novel. That being said, it's very good. Not a wasted word.
Foster is one of Claire Keegan's most poetic triumphs. Yet, it is a novella with a full arc of expectation and awe. There can be no better description of the love of a father for a daughter, or son, nor a better world created around a marriage and a loss. The scenes of the sea or the land stay in the mind.
This book was on a list of "must-reads." It was not in our library system (which is huge), so I took a chance and ordered it. What a wonderful book. I am so glad I own it, because I will read it again and again. Exquisite writing.
A girl is sent to her neighboring relatives for the summer. What you see in this novel is what this girl sees and feels, and you intuit the things she's not old enough to understand. A gentle but incisive look into the world of children as they navigate what's around them.
I had read a review of this book in which the reviewer had said, "I'd take a bullet for this book." That struck me as a little extreme, but I ordered the book out of curiosity. By the middle of page 1, I could already feel this book. It is absolutely beautiful. I've never read anything like it. It has its own feel, its own pace, a wonderful, sweet/sad/amazing story. But it's more than just the story; it's how the author uses tense, word choice. You immediately feel the story. So intimate, so strange, so beautiful. Read this book.
Almost too slight to be a novella, this gem of a book is small, perfect and brilliant. The story of a young child, a girl named Leanbh, one of a passel of children from a poor Irish whose mother is pregnant again. Leanbh is sent to live with an aunt and uncle she barely knows for and an indeterminate time. The story is told in first person, through Leanbh’s eyes. The writing is spare, the effect is fresh and honest. This is truly a rare book.
