Longing for Home Book 2 Hope Springs Sarah M Eden 0783027078107 Books

I never, never, never delete a previous review, but this book deserved a rewritten, better review.

I read this one back in 2016, and I rarely ever enjoy a book better the second time than I do the first. The original time I read this, I liked it but didn't love it. This go around, I loved it. My previous review didn't do justice to this story. Perhaps because this is a different western romance than you find out there, and my expectations colored my perceptions.

Any book that keeps me craving to go back to it is a good book. Let me rephrase that...any book that keeps me craving to go back to it and doesn't ruin it with a crappy ending is a good book. This was a series I had a hard time putting down.

I love the characters, love the plot, love the conflicts. I spent a good chunk of this book crying both happy and sad tears. It's far more tragic than you usually see in romance novels, but it worked for the story and I'm glad the author didn't pull any punches.

So, yeah. I thought it was okay during the first read, but this time, I really fell in love with the story.

Longing for Home Book 2 Hope Springs Sarah M Eden 0783027078107 Books Reviews

Longing for Home is one of my all time favorite stories (it's a two book set). I love the characters, the setting, and the beautifully told, if rather heart-breaking at times story. I found myself loving Katie from the very first page with her determination, courage, and kind heart masked behind her prickly facade. A facade developed over years of being on her own working as a servant from the age of 8-years-old. She blames herself for her estrangement from her family and wants desperately to return to Ireland to fix things, but first she must earn the money she needs to do so. And that brings her to Hope Springs, a town that unfortunately is having a hard time living up to its name. The town is sharply divided between the Irish and their neighbors and Katie inadvertently stokes the already simmering tensions. And with two good men seeking to win her heart, Katie has her work cut out for her.

In book 2, Katie having chosen to remain in Hope Springs finds herself desperately trying to stop the conflict between the townspeople from exploding into all out war, but finds that circumstances have moved far beyond her control. With a heart torn between Tavish, the Irish farmer, and Joseph, the wealthy landowner, she wonders if she will ever find a place to truly call home.

I confess that I found the historical aspects of this novel heartbreaking, the anger and the hatred expressed through violence and confrontation with most people simply wanting to be able to live their lives. The relationships that Katie develops I really enjoyed reading about as she learns to care about others and let them care about her. I found myself quite torn between the two love interests, both good men with their own strengths and weaknesses. But of course, Katie can't choose both and so choose she does. I confess I was wrong about who she ended up with, but I think in the end she ended up with the man she fits with best, certainly the one she loves the best.

A wonderful series that is one of my all time favorite series and one I can thoroughly and heartily recommend to readers who enjoy historical fiction with a strong dose of romance but also so much more. Sarah Eden is truly a magician in creating stories that remain in your heart long after the book is closed.
Wow I can't say enough about this book. I really did feel all the feels while reading this book. I enjoyed reading about Katie develop as a person after she decided to stay in Hope Springs. Going from the broken girl who's only purpose was to prove herself to her family someday to finding love and a home with people who cared about her. Her struggle to decide who she loved kept me turning pages late into the night hoping she would choose the one I was cheering for. Katie has such a big and giving heart and it was neat to see the good and changes that came to Hope Springs because of it. I was not expecting the tragedy that came toward the end of the book. My heart hurt for all those affected by the tragedy but was happy about the healing that it brought. The ending of the book was just perfect. Such a great read!
I was so glad there was a second book to this which I am secretly hoping for a third because I fell in love with these characters. I just loved Katie. She is such a strong wonderful character - so strong and striving. And my dear sweet Tavish - oh how I loved your teasing and humor. He always put a smile on my face when he graced my pages. My heart was pulling for him from the beginning ani felt Kate's pain on who shed choose - I wouldn't want to hurt either Tavish or Joseph. In this book Joseph comes more alive and makes his feelings more visible to Katie. When he does this my heart pulls for him just as it does for Tavish. I was in a pickle for my heart growing for both just like Katie. About 75% through the book, I had a hunch on who she'd pick by how she said each other made her feel. Joseph turned out to be a sweet man - a little reserved but very sweet. You can tell his feelings for Katie grew tremendously by what he does for her to help her heal and come to terms with her her past. I also loved Katie's relationship with Ivy and Emma - how they grew attached to Katie. This book along with the first is definitely a keeper- this story and characters were just amazing that I devoured it quickly wanting more. Sarah is such a great story teller she does wonderfully on making you believe her characters really hailed from Ireland by how she phrases their dialog. I only hope and pray there will be a third book.
I read the first book and liked it so I bought the second one. I just wonder why Sarah had to make it so sad. I know life is not perfect, but I have to many things in my life that go wrong to read books that make me sad. I want uplifting books, not ones that have so much turmoil in them. I read at night before bed and I felt like when I finished it I had to buy an uplifting book to read before I fell asleep so I could get it out of my brain. Sorry, I just didn't like it.
